Minibridge is a simplified version of the game of bridge and is the route into bridge recommended by the English Bridge Union. Minibridge was first developed as an introduction to bridge for schoolchildren but has also proven its worth as an entry point for teaching bridge to adults. Playing minibridge provides a superb environment for beginners to become comfortable with the etiquette and mechanics of duplicate bridge, before they embark upon learning the auction phase of the full game. |
The “Bridge for Kids” initiative was spawned from a collaboration of three bridge clubs in the East Norfolk area who wanted to extend the "Benefits of Bridge" to the younger generation.
Members of the Alpha, Great Yarmouth and Ormesby Bridge clubs approached local schools in the Summer term
of 2018.
Students were subsequentially invited to sign-up to a MiniBridge Taster Session
resulting in MiniBridge lessons in the Autumn term.
Substantial help was received from the EBU in providing teaching materials and financing DBS checks as well as from the NCBA in sponsoring teacher training.
They have introduced Minibridge into three secondary schools and two sixth form colleges so far, and are currently in on-going discussions with the sixth form colleges for "Bridge for Kids" to be an addition to the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. There are social and educational benefits that playing bridge at school can bring as well as being fun
